km august 2014, page 3 paragraph 6(article for this week's service meeting):.
"the month of october 2014 will see the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the kingdom.
for this occasion a special edition of the watchtower will be on this theme.".
jwfacts >>> It would be interesting to know when it moved back to Oct.
.
The earliest indication of moving the date of the 'gentile times' ending back to October 1914 I could reference to the WT issue of October 15, 1945, page 308, par 8.
The next one followed in the WT issue of November 1, 1949, page 331, par. 24.

Oubliette >>> October 2, 1914 . . . or, was it?
.
.
Just guessing, but Rutherford must have dealt with Russell's diary in a folklorish way.
JFR insisted on the date of August 1914. And, btw, the WT May 1, 1922 issue reads "on the first day of October 1914", whereas the "Revelation - Its Grand Climax At Hand" book reads October 2, 1914. Go, figure!

Until the mid 1920s it was more like a dual approach.

after going through all the processes of how they appointed elders in the past they say this:.
"the elders in turn would inform the newly appointed men of their appointment, asking them if they were willing and actually qualified to accept the assignment.
so after qualifying the man you ask him if he is qualified.. .
.
Who knows of the shortest time between appointment and deletion of an elder?
In my memory of ample happenings I recall in one case a 16 day period in between those two events.
after going through all the processes of how they appointed elders in the past they say this:.
"the elders in turn would inform the newly appointed men of their appointment, asking them if they were willing and actually qualified to accept the assignment.
so after qualifying the man you ask him if he is qualified.. .
As was always suspected, Holy Spirit got nothing to do with appointments.

Recommendations for deletion because of poor judgment not of a judicial nature are usually best considered with the elders during the visit of the circuit overseer.

Alluding to Franz's eisegesis the Watchtower publication put this in print:
.
Addressing the graduates, F. W. Franz showed why they were not being sent by any ecclesiastical body such as exists in the churches of Christendom. According to the Scriptures, neither Philip nor the apostle Paul, two outstanding evangelizers or missionaries in the first century C.E., received missionary assignments from the apostolic body at Jerusalem. Both men did their work under the direction of the real head of the Christian congregation, Jesus Christ. Paul had, in fact, been directly chosen by Jesus as an apostle to the nations. Later, at the direction of God’s spirit, Paul and his companion Barnabas were sent out from the Antioch congregation. Both men recognized their assignment as having come, not from men, but from Jesus Christ. The missionaries trained at Gilead School can also be confident of Christ’s backing and direction.

we have had a great discussion about world war i and its impact on the twentieth century.
i hope we can have an equally interesting exchange about october 1914. we all know how important that date was in the history of jehovah's witnesses but what may be murkier is the wts's later thinking on what happened that month and when.
charles taze russell and his followers expected the gentile times to conclude in that month with the battle of armageddon.
